Ajmer

Bharatpur
|
About
135 kms South-west of Jaipur lies Ajmer, the most sacred of all
Muslim places of pilgrimage in India. The strategic position of this
city has been the key to its long, and rather turbulent history.
Ajmer is connected to Delhi, Agra, Ahmedabad, Abu, Jodhpur, Udaipur
and Jaipur, by main highways. |
Each
year before the advent of winter in the northern hemisphere
thousands of birds wing their way across the frozen waters of
Siberia, Mongolia, Tibet and the high reaches of eastern Europe to
the warmer subcontinent of India. |

Chittorgarh
|
Bikaner
is situated directly on the ancient caravan routes that come from
West/Central Asia. It was therefore a great centre of trade in the
ancient world. This gave rise to a curious phenomenon. |
The
hilltop fortress of Chittorgarh epitomizes the whole romantic,
doomed ideal of Rajput chivalry. Three times in its long history,
Chittor was sacked by a stronger enemy and, on each occasion, the
end carne in textbook Rajput fashion as jauhar was declared in the
face of impossible odds. |

Jaisalmer
|
Jaipur,
the vibrant capital of Rajasthan, is popularly known as the ' Pink
City ' because of the pink-coloured buildings in its old city. It
sits on a dry lake bed in a somewhat arid landscape, surrounded by
barren hills surmounted by forts and crenellated walls. |
Jaisalmer
is an important destination of the western state of India,
Rajasthan. A desert city, it was founded by the Bhatti Rajput
chieftain Rawal Jaisal in the year 1156. Jaisalmer could be regarded
as the western sentinel of entire India and a place worth visiting
to get an idea of the native Rajasthan. |
