Kota
is also known as Kotah. It is a town in southern parts of Rajasthan, and
is situated in the northwestern part of India, on the Chambal River. The
weather in these parts of rajasthan plays a very diffrent role from the
other part of the state with summers being quite hot and winters being
cool. The city due to its strategic location has always been a trade
center and a place with farms of cotton, millet, wheat, and oilseeds.
Kota is nestled on a high sloping tableland which is a part of the Malwa
Plateau. The Mokandarra hills running from southeast to northwest axis
of the town almost cover the whole city. The town, Kota, once the part
of the erstwhile Rajput kingdom of Bundi, became a separate princely
state in the 17th century. Apart from the several monuments that are a
reflection of the bygone glory of the town, Kota is also known for its
palaces and gardens. The town is now situated at a distance of 36 km
from Bundi, another famous town of Rajasthan. Today also in the modern
world this city offers several industries that include cotton and
oilseed milling, textile weaving, distilling, dairying, and the
manufacture of metal handcrafts. The history of Kota is linked with the history of Bundi as Kota was once was part of the Bundi. Bundi came under the rule of the Chauhans in the 12th century and with this Kota also became part of the Chauhans clans land. The descendents of the Chauhans decided to set up Bundi as their capital and ruled from here. While Bundi was the capital, Kota formed the land that was granted to the eldest son of the ruler by the ruler. In 1624, with Emperor Jahangir, the great Mughal ruler, conquered and partitioned Bundi, while making Kota an independent princely state. Rao Madho Singh, son of the ruler of Bundi, ascended the throne of Kota. Tourist Attractions in Kota The citys forts and palaces, are one of the main attractions, these are located on the eastern banks of the Chambal River, near the Kota Barrage. These type of forts and palace complexes are one of its kind as they are the largest in the state of Rajasthan. The museum within the city palace is worth visiting, as it playes the host to a enriching collection of artifacts. Kishore Sagar Tank, built in 1346, nestled near the palace is also an important tourist attraction. The little Jagmandir Palace, built on a small island at the center of Kishore Sagar Tank, by one of the local rulers in 1740, is another place of tourist intrests as the beauty of this small palace is truly breat taking. Adjacent to the Kishore Sagar Tank is the Brij Vilas Palace Museum, a small government museum. Also city of Kota offers a number of gardens. The Chambal gardens and the Chhattar Bilas gardens are the main ones to be visited. |
